While growing up in Yorkshire, Danny was encouraged by his parents to become involved in as many sports as possible. At the age of six he played his first rugby union match for Leeds club West Park Bramhope. Danny's first love was football, but he was told he was too short for that game. Although at the age of eleven he did get invited to join Sheffield Wednesday FC's training academy. Throughout his now successful rugby career, Danny has remained a diehard Liverpool FC fan. He particularly admires the unwavering drive and determination shown by footballer Steven Gerrard.
In common with many of his contemporaries, Danny has posed nude for the 'Rugby's Finest' calendar.
