Encouraged by his mother, a young Artem enrolled in dance classes in his native Russia. He was immediately hooked and his talent soon became apparent. Artem left home at fifteen to train in Germany, thus beginning his journey towards fame and fortune.
In 2003, Chigvintsev met and began a relationship with Giselle Peacock, an American ballroom dancer, whom he married in November 2004. He began competing in the American television series 'So You Think You Can Dance' in the summer of 2005. Artem's growing popularity saw him make the final, although, at the same time, his marriage was over after only eight months. Giselle claimed that he only married her for a green card and to further his pursuit of fame, success and money. In 2006, before his divorce was final, Artem began a two-and-a-half year romance with Carrie Ann Inaba, a judge on ABC's 'Dancing With The Stars'.
Artem rounded off 2010 by winning the BBC's 'Strictly Come Dancing' title with his celebrity partner, actress Kara Tointon. The couple confirmed their off-screen romance by sharing a passionate kiss as the result was announced.
The Russian-born dancer acquired American citizenship in 2014.
